Today's Featured Artist is one few might know by name, but might well recognize after seeing his craft;
"Oh, THAT guy... huh ! Yeah, Good Stuff : something along those lines... Prog Rock Visions and Moorcockian Pantasms
Rodney Mathews rarified Fantasy and illustratively rich water-coulehed palettes can only be compared Only to two other contemporary Masters: Roger Dean (of Album Cover and '70s black-light poster fame), and Brian Froud (Labyrinth, Dark Crystal).
Although younger folks might think Michael Whelan defined the illustrative Realities and Boundaries of Michael Moorcock's Multiverse, there is no hesitation to Grognards of a certain age as to 'whose work is more evocative of the Eternal Champion'.
My Favorite Moorcock story-cycle is the Corum trilogy: Knight, Queen, and King of Chaos (there is no other ! ...and Elric bored me to tears. ... so there's That !) This Corum of our Rodney lives and breathes: i Corum to a Fault !
{Edit--> The Coffefee just wore off,
and I literally fell asleep forehead planted on the keyboard.
This resulted in complete obliteration of the most perfectly written homage to a master artist
ever committed to the Aether.
Sadness....
Also Lost in the erasure was the transitional paragraph
that resulted in the logical progression to the following possibly spammy free-form reminisce
about miniatures of Yore)
The Important Bitz, the underlying skeletal framework of inspiration,
can be trace by this bit of Serendipity recorded at Armintrout's Sandbox:
the Thread innocently entitled _ "Help ID 2 OLD Lead Dragons" _
theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=527312
Quoting:
It's been said before, but I'll say it again:
"Aureola Rococo" is still one of the coolest names for a figure line in miniatures history."
Originally available from MiniFigs back in the day,
they were thought to be Lost to the rEalms of Lost Minis WiKi

Remarkably
much of the Aureola Rococo line has been revived by Matchlock miniatures

Happily..?Our Rodney still walks on this side of the Veil,
and his ongoing Life's Work can be found
by dancing through this Portal in the Multiverse:
