A duck tribute to Warduke, first seen on the cover of issue 17 of The Dragon magazine in 1978. I wouldn't see him until the mid-80s though, when he featured in a range of toys and colouring books, as well as the Saturday morning Dungeons & Dragons cartoon where he captures the Dungeon Master! He reminded me of a cross between Elric and Deathdealer.

A duck tribute to Warduke, first seen on the cover of issue 17 of The Dragon magazine in 1978. ... He reminded me of a cross between Elric and Deathdealer. FANTASTIC ! I've just printed out an 8 x 10 of this to hang between my framed Howard the Duck #1 (Gerber autographed!!) and my (sadly non-Kirby autographed) Destroyer Duck #1 I completely see this image as an Icon of alternative Universe ('Earth 1221906') wherein Louis "Duke" Duck battled the Mad Accountant suma cum Wizard Pro-Ratarather than Howard... Refer to the Splash Page on HtD #1, pg6, where the dialog reads "My Ancestors were Egyptain(sic) Sorcerers, Slavic Witches, Druids... and they were Failures, mystical slobs, the Lot of them ...! All because they failed to see World Domination in terms of Accountancy. The Universe is the ultimate Flow Chart... and He Who Juggles the Books can Rule Infinity"
Yeah..! Imagine an issue of "What If...?" drawn with your WarDuke Tribute drawn in place of Howard here: www.youdontreadcomics.com/comics/2019/7/5/howard-the-duck-1-fascimile-edition-reviewand here: (next panel missing, but it's the one I quoted above...) obligatory Reference: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroyer_Duck

Mighty ducks! I read your references. So that's where the Howard/Leonard clone duck comes from!

Have my copy of Howard Omnibus on the shelf right here. Sadly, my copies of the issues are long gone. Time travel is highly improbable and therefore possible in DuckQuest, so you could go back to when you had them and bring them back. With a suitable side quest of course!

I read your references. So that's where the Howard/Leonard clone duck comes from! Just So ! The behind-the-scenes Shenanigans of GodCorps (Marvel, now an unholy owned subsidiary of 'the House of Mouse') and Steve Gerber & Jack Kirby's Don Quixotic legal 'wind mill' tilt is one of the hidden tragedies of that Era. Without that (the Howard/Leonard story arc and its motivations) its arguable that the Creators Rights era might never have happened. At the very least, it would have happened 20 years later. Important stuff, in a 'Teach Your Children Well' kinda way. IMHO->FWIW->YMMV And "yes" : That is Exactly the Reason my own personal Glorantha has a breed of Broos the size of ruddy English school children; Rattus Chaotica Devoratrix "Beware the House of Mouse"

A duck tribute to Warduke, first seen on the cover of issue 17 of The Dragon magazine in 1978. .... He reminded me of a cross between Elric and Deathdealer. I looked and looked, and haven't been able to locate #17 for comparison; That being said..? Your WarDuke reminds me (strongly !) of _this_ Elric: I think it's likely the facial features that so strongly make the resemblance resonate (well.. That and the Giant Sword & Dragon Helm...) {EDIT} This Elric painted in 1976 (!!) by the Great Rodney Mathews, (Thanks, Duke!) The Eternal Champions Box Set was made 'Way back in 1985, back in the Glory Days before Citadel was... we'l, let's The Bard Explain in his Cracking Ballad Why Heroquest is so Great(or: the Way of the Grognard !!! {close edit} youtu.be/Cx8sl2uC46ABonus Points/ Side Quest: Before I realized my Photos were way too big to post here on Forum, I had dug my copy of that box set out of my Painting Qeue Closet. After realizing, I went on-line and found this (admittedly verrah, verrah Nice set) is currently selling for a ridiculous $200USD !!!
{ EDIT } $200 hit is Right Crazy, to be sure! Buuut: " Totally Worth every ha'penny of the Fiver I spent at a Con for my copy-> Now that it's reimagined by today's younger set as the Classic Icon set that it Is? I believe it gets Promoted to "First" in my painting queue (or at least until the DuckQuest imins are released from Lockdown/Quarantine) "
Guess who is getting Painted First...?..! { Laughs Maniacally...}
" Brood-Soo'd !!!"

$200 hit is Crazy, to be sure, but as I say in my edited post: " Totally Worth the Fiver I spent at a Con for my copy-> Now that it's reimagined by today's younger set as the Classic Icon set that it Is?
